This is Micha Meinderts' site. Micha is a Dutch writer currently living in New Hampshire, USA. This page is a short summary of the rest of the pages. Unfortunately, at this point blog and forum is only in Dutch.
"Micha Meinderts" is a pen name because I really didn't like my own last name at the time of publishing. Besides, nothing can beat a good alliteration.
I've been writing for a long time, but writing to be published only since 2005. I've tried three genres so far (literature, fantasy and children's), getting published so far only in literature, but I would like to try other genres too if I get a good idea for them.
My debut came out in September 2008 in Antwerp. It's the first novel in the Arthur Hartman trilogy (see below). Eventually there will be an English translation (whether or not published remains to be seen) but so far I have only had time to translate the first chapters. If you are a (GLBT) publisher and interested in reading that first chapter to get an idea, just .
Three books about a boy growing up in Holland, starting in the late seventies when at age fourteen he finds out that he likes boys better than girls, and ending in the new century when he is almost forty and molded by life and experience. The objective of the series, other than giving people a little more insight in the life of a gay man besides the obvious things like discrimination and AIDS, is showing how life kneads you in a certain shape, and figuring out if you have any say in said shape or not.
Book one: Cadence - Arthur is struggling through adolescence, making and losing friends, having his first sexual encounters, finishing high school and signing up for the police academy in Rotterdam. Ultimately he's trying to find out who he is. Published in September 2008.
Book two: Double life (or rather, Living twice) - Arthur is a police officer now and tries to hide his private life from his colleagues, and his work from his (boy)friends. Living two lives is hard, but he figures it's the best way to stay alive in both the police-world and the gay scene. He knows who he is, now he needs to learn to deal with that. Published in March 2010.
Book three: Face to face - Arthur has mellowed out a bit and is fairly content with his lonely life. Then he meets someone he falls in love with, head over heels. Unfortunately the man is straight as can be and against the background of a strange series of burglaries and other crimes Arthur tries to maintain a feeble friendship. Eventually he comes to terms with who he is and what life itself made him to be. Published in July 2011
